St Peter’s, a 13th century church mainly built of flint stone walls with Chilmark ashlar and Greensand bonding stones. The quinquennial inspection report highlighted repairs needed to external open joints, cracks to various external sills and stonework, and internal repointing to walls and window surrounds. Other works included fixing and replacing of clay tiles on the tower, vestry and nave roof, and the restoration of window grills and oak door ironmongery using traditional methods and treatments.
Stonework repairs and repointing carried out using lime mortar and dressings of lime and stone mix shelter coat. We were sought to carry out the work directly by the church PCC.
May I, Shaun, say how extremely gratifying it is to be associated with a team of workmen – am I allowed to use that terminology?! – who clearly have a genuine interest in the work they are doing and are not afraid to make suggestions/ask questions about any issue that they face. I hope, in return, I was responsive and able to take decisions to keep them warm in very cold weather!! I think you should be proud of them and would ask you to pass on my thanks.
